Check Yourself

Not gonna lie, I’ve been a bit on edge lately. From having to deal with draining coworkers, school, and just life in general, I would say I am a bit overwhelmed. Do you ever get so annoyed to the point where anything someone says or does just annoys you? In my mind, I’ve just been thinking of the worst things to say to some people and if I’m not careful I’ll just end up saying those thoughts out loud.

Thinking of such words and actions really got me to feeling pretty guilty, because they’re sometimes so mean, I can’t believe they’re coming from me. All this has made me realize that I need to check myself when I get into that headspace.

Ever since I can remember, my dad has always reminded me to think twice before I react. Not only when it came to my words but also being mindful of my attitude that will surface as well. I’m one to admit my attitude does cost me at times when I’m not careful.

Unfortunately, I am getting older and I can no longer react the way I once did when I was in my teens. I find that checking yourself is very important to “self-growth.” I do think it forces me to hold myself accountable. Honestly, there’s no better feeling than self-realizing that there is something within you that can be corrected. Sometimes, we fall into the trap of thinking that “we’re good,” when in reality, we should always be a constant work in progress. There is nothing wrong with wanting to address and fix the qualities in us that are toxic. That right there is true self-growth.
